THE International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM), to be held between Oct 9 and Oct 11 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, is expected to generate RM2.8 billion of business leads.

Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC) Deputy Minister Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis (picture) said IGEM 2019, which will see the convergence of more than 350 exhibitors and 35,000 expected global visitors from over 35 countries, will be the gateway to Asean’s thriving green technology market.

The outcome of the event is also expected to power the growth of green cities across the region.

“This event will offer a one-of-a-kind showcase hub for groundbreaking green technologies and products, offering trade visitors a platform to explore lucrative eco-business opportunities.

“It is also to forge strategic partnerships through business matching programmes, hence the public has an avenue to explore developments in the field of green technology,” she said at IGEM’s 10th anniversary celebration in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

According to Malaysian Green Technology Corp (GreenTech Malaysia), the event will also highlight innovations in five key sectors namely; green technology, encompassing renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste technology and management; and green financing and green manufacturing.

Isnaraissah Munirah said this year’s theme, “Innovating Sustainability-through Green Technologies that empower Climate Action”, will explore the integration modes between green economy solutions and achieving sustainable development goals for various global industries.

The event would also be used as a platform to discuss issues facing 70% of the global population who are living in cities by 2050. Some topics to be discussed include river pollution, working together to end plastic waste, driving towards cleaner air, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and efficient LEDs.

“This is the 10th time IGEM is organised in Malaysia and so far, 19 countries, five states and eight ministries have given their commitment to participate in this year’s IGEM. “On top of that, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be with us to officiate the 10th anniversary of IGEM,” she added.

GreenTech Malaysia, which is also the event’s co-organiser, said IGEM is well-positioned to enable business to tap into its immense potential and continue to cement Malaysia’s position as a centre of green technology and generating business leads that have catapulted investments in the green sector.

IGEM 2019 has so far confirmed participation of the High Commission of Canada, Green Energy Institute, GEI (Korea) and EU-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry for international pavilions.

Key solar players such as Hanwa Q Cells, Powerway Renewable Energy Co Ltd, Cleanergy Xiamen Technology (China), SM Solar (Singapore) and Sabah state government, along with new exhibitors, Taitra (Taiwan) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands, have all signed up to exhibit.

Almost 80% of the exhibition booths on offer have been sold and only 75 booths are still available.
