Volvo Trucks Unveils Advanced Heavy-Duty Range to Boost Safety and Sustainability

Innovative Solutions to Support Malaysia’s Haulage Industry Growth and Environmental Goals.

Shah Alam, Selangor, 28 November 2024 – Volvo Trucks Malaysia has introduced its updated range of heavy-duty trucks, designed to elevate safety, efficiency, and driver comfort while supporting sustainability efforts. The launch aligns with Malaysia’s ascent in the global logistics ecosystem, as reflected in its 26th ranking in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI) 2023, a significant improvement from 41st in 2022.

Innovative Features for Improved Performance
Volvo’s newly updated heavy-duty trucks, including the Volvo FH, FM, and FMX models, are tailored to meet the rigorous demands of Malaysia’s logistics and haulage sectors. The range incorporates:

  • Aerodynamic Design Enhancements: The Globetrotter cab optimises airflow, improving fuel efficiency by up to 9% and lowering carbon emissions.
  • Advanced Safety Features: Standard systems such as Forward Collision Warning with automatic emergency braking enhance safety, alongside adaptive innovations like trailer parking brake activation and Adaptive Cruise Control.
  • Optimised Cruise Control: The I-See system integrates topographical data to adjust speed and gear shifts, improving fuel savings and reducing driver fatigue.
  • Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS): This technology stabilises vehicles under diverse conditions, ensuring safer journeys for both drivers and other road users.

Further advancing road safety, the range introduces the Camera Monitoring System (CMS), which features night vision and panning capabilities to reduce blind spots. Set for release in the second quarter of 2025, this system complements the brand’s efforts to enhance operational efficiency and safety.

Driving Sustainability in Logistics
Volvo Trucks aligns with Malaysia’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2021–2030, with its new range meeting Euro 5 emissions standards. These enhancements allow businesses to reduce emissions, improving air quality and operational efficiency while meeting environmental goals.

The integration of sustainable technologies reflects Volvo Trucks’ commitment to supporting Malaysia’s green initiatives, in collaboration with agencies like the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC).

Enhanced Driver Experience
Recognising the pivotal role of truck drivers in logistics, Volvo Trucks has prioritised cabin comfort and safety in its updated range. Key features include:

  • Ergonomic Interiors: Spacious resting areas, intuitive controls, and improved in-cabin audio systems with USB-C ports provide drivers with a more comfortable working environment.
  • Driver Assistance: The Driver Safety+ Package includes Lane Keeping Support, Driver Alert Support, and Trailer Connect Indicators, ensuring optimal safety during long-haul trips. Championing Women in Trucking
Volvo Trucks is also advancing gender diversity in the logistics sector through its Iron Women programme, aimed at training 100 women to become professional heavy-duty truck drivers by 2025. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to inclusivity and skills development within the industry. Commitment to Industry Excellence
To complement the launch, Volvo Trucks plans to deliver driver training sessions to help operators maximise the benefits of its updated range. These initiatives reinforce the company’s dedication to addressing industry challenges and contributing to Malaysia’s logistics ambitions.

The launch event, attended by key industry leaders and officiated by Yang Berhormat Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, highlights Volvo Trucks’ role as a transformative force in Malaysia’s transportation sector.
