The Malaysia Pavilion at COP29 underscores the country’s commitment to sustainability as it prepares to assume the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025. With the theme “Shift for Sustainability – Climate Action Now!,” Malaysia will showcase key climate action milestones, advocate for enhanced intergovernmental cooperation, and promote sustainable practices on a global stage.

Aligned with Malaysia’s broader climate goals, this initiative supports the 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme, “Inclusivity and Sustainability.” Malaysia will call for greater collaboration among ASEAN members to drive sustainable development, environmental protection, and social equity, contributing to the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the region’s net-zero ambitions.

Datuk Dr Ching Thoo a/l Kim, Secretary General of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), stated, “The global climate crisis demands a unified approach. At COP29, we reaffirm our commitment to climate-conscious policies and sustainable economic growth, benefiting ASEAN nations’ people and economies.”

Located in the COP29 Blue Zone, the pavilion will promote collective action on climate finance, renewable energy, carbon markets, biodiversity, youth empowerment, and the circular economy.

Prominent local and international speakers will lead discussions over the two-week conference, focusing on resilient initiatives to secure a sustainable future for Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

A series of high-level panels, featuring representatives from ministries, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Malayan Banking Berhad, and ICLEI South Asia, will explore pathways to climate-resilient cities in Malaysia through regional and global partnerships.

A panel moderated by GIZ ASEAN EU-German Climate Action Programme will showcase ASEAN’s climate ambitions and collaborative action with speakers from Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, and Singapore.

The agenda will conclude with sessions on transboundary climate risks in Southeast Asia, featuring experts from the Global Resilience Partnership, Stockholm Environment Institute, and BCG, focusing on collaborative climate risk management for the region.

Led by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change, and the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), the Malaysia Pavilion is supported by organisations including Tenaga Nasional Berhad, PETRONAS, Malaysian Palm Oil Council, Felda Global Ventures, and Maybank.
