Yinson unit inks MOU to provide chargEV access to GoCar

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 8): Yinson Holdings Bhd’s unit is exploring collaboration to provide electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure access to vehicle-sharing platform operator GoCar Mobility Sdn Bhd.

Green EV Charge Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between Yinson and GreenTech Malaysia Alliances Sdn Bhd, has 400 charging infrastructure nationwide under its brand chargEV, according to Yinson in a bourse filing.

GreenTech Malaysia is a wholly-owned unit of Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), a government agency under the purview of the Ministry of Environment and Water.

Yinson said Green EV Charge had inked a memorandum understanding with GoCar to provide charging infrastructure facilities and solutions, along with customer care services to GoCar users.

Under the MOU, Green EV Charge will provide GoCar EVs with access to charging infrastructure through the chargEV mobile app.

The deal also entails benefits for GoCar EV users from chargEV’s comprehensive customer care services.

Ruslin Tamsir, the senior vice-president of electromobility of Yinson GreenTech, Yinson’s green technology division, said Green EV Charge’s partnership with GoCar will contribute towards positioning EVs as an attractive and sustainable transport option in the country.

“We believe that chargEV’s new back-end system and mobile app, together with our rapidly expanding charging infrastructure network, will be able to support the growth of GoCar’s network and user base,” he said.

GoCar Malaysia chief executive officer Wong Hoe Mun said: “Enhancing connectivity to chargEV will help improve user experience of EV charging throughout Malaysia. We are proud to champion a smarter, greener way of commuting. GoEV (GoCar’s initiative) has seen great success in making EVs affordable and accessible to the general public.

“The integration with chargEV will offer even more accessibility. Through our GoCar mobile app, any EV user, not just GoCar members, will be able to seamlessly connect to both networks for their EV charging needs,” he added.
