THE Environment and Water Ministry will host Malaysia’s weekly trade and business programmes at Expo 2020 Dubai (Oct 18 to Nov 6) with the theme Green Growth: Ready for Global Opportunities.
During the programmes, three memorandums of understanding and three letters of intent with potential business leads worth RM5.316bil are expected to be signed between Malaysian and global companies.
From Oct 18 to 22, the ministry will be staging a trade and business programme themed Green Technology Innovation to:
> Showcase Malaysia as a leading nation in green technology innovations and climate change,
> Promote the country’s green technology industries to the global market.
> Attract strategic green technology investments into the different sectors and industries of the country’s economy.
From Oct 23 to 30, the programme on Climate Resilience and Sustainable Infrastructure will highlight Malaysia’s agenda and strategy to address climate change and build a green economic model.
On Oct 25, the forum on Climate Change Conversation on Sustainable Infrastructure will explore urban development challenges which are major contributors of greenhouse gas emissions.
From Oct 31 to Nov 6, the focus is on Low Carbon Cities. The Climate Change Conversation on Sustainable Cities (Nov 1) will feature the KL mayor representing Malaysia, among other international panelists. This forum will be an exchange of ideas on programmes that are implemented locally and the respective countries’ goals to develop sustainable cities.
The Environment and Water Ministry’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai is a collaborative effort with Petronas, World Islamic Economic Forum Foundation, and strategic partners such as Next Green Global, Ficus Venture, Freeed Holdings, National Art Gallery, UN Global Compact Malaysia, Sunway Planetary Health Centre and other Malaysian private companies with global experience.
Malaysia’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai is spearheaded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and implemented by the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), an agency under the Environment and Water Ministry.
At Expo 2020 Dubai, the memorandums of understanding expected to be signed are between:
> Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (projected business lead RM400mil)
> IBN Development Berhad and Ahjam Sazeh Pte Ltd, UAE (RM2bil)
> IBN Development Berhad and Gima Group Inc, UAE (RM1bil)
The letters of intent expected to be signed are between:
> MGTC and Diamond Developers, UAE (RM1bil)
> MGTC and City Solar, UAE (RM500mil)
> Nextgreen Global Berhad and Fujairah Department of Industry and Economy, Government of Fujairah, UAE (RM416mil)
Total projected business leads: RM5.316bil
