Deloitte’s platform for businesses to share know-how on climate action to be launched this afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 3): A platform for companies to share best practices in climate action will be launched with a webinar this afternoon.

The Goal 13 Impact Initiative in Malaysia will be launched at 4.30pm today with a keynote address by the UK’s regional ambassador for COP26 Ken O’Flaherty. The global initiative is led by the Confederation of British Industry, Deloitte, Dell Technologies, the directors’ climate forum Chapter Zero, Prince Charles’ accounting for sustainability project A4S and the UK Met Office.

Goal 13, about climate action, is one of 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015. COP26 is the next session of the UN Climate Change Conference, which is due to be held in November.

The platform will feature cross-sector insights into the climate actions of companies and their context, said the webinar organiser Climate Governance Malaysia in its newsletter.

The event will feature a panel discussion involving Michael Baddeley of Ricoh Europe, Ton van den Bosch of Addleshaw Goddard, Kerryn Coker of Arup, Michael Long of Lendlease, Sanjiv Paul of the Tata Group. The panel will be led by Sam Baker, Partner of Deloitte UK and Cheryl Khor, Partner of Deloitte Malaysia.

Climate Governance Malaysia (CGM) is the local chapter of the Climate Governance Initiative of the World Economic Forum. The webinar is being held in collaboration with The British High Commission Kuala Lumpur, Deloitte Malaysia, British Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Global Compact Malaysia.

The launch of the impact platform is one of two webinars organised by CGM this month. The second event, entitled “Understanding Increasing Investor Expectations for Climate Governance” is being held in collaboration with the Institutional Investors Council of Malaysia on Feb 11 from 2.30pm-5.30pm.

This webinar aims to raise awareness about the fiduciary duty of all directors in addressing physical and transition risks arising from the climate crisis, which are material financial risks that represent a critical business challenge and opportunity, the newsletter said.

A highlight of the event is the address by the founder of the Climate Governance Initiative Karina Litvack. Participants will also hear Dr Gary Theseira, the Consultant Technical Adviser to the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre, Amar Singh Gill, the APAC Head of Investment Stewardship at BlackRock and Per Grankvist, Chief Storyteller for Viable Cities, Sweden.
