Scale2Dubai programme offers opportunities for Malaysian startups, small businesses

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 29): Malaysia Pavilion for Expo 2020 Dubai is calling on Malaysian start-ups, innovators and small businesses to take advantage of the Scale2Dubai global entrepreneur programme.

In a statement today, it said the District 2020’s programme will enable eligible start-ups and small businesses to expand outside their native market, and establish themselves in Dubai — the gateway to the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region (MEASA), as part of District 2020, the future evolution of Expo 2020 Dubai.

“Small businesses and start-ups looking to scale up and gain access to new markets can tap into the Scale2Dubai programme which will provide them with an ecosystem they need to break ground and flourish globally,” Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre (MGTC) chief operating officer Syed Ahmad Syed Mustafa said today.

Scale2Dubai was launched in February 2020 by District 2020, which has been designed to become a human-centric community and an innovation ecosystem that promotes growth in industries that are critical to the growth of the innovation-driven economy.

As the future of Expo 2020 Dubai, District 2020 will retain and repurpose over 80 per cent of Expo’s world class infrastructure.

Malaysia is among more than 190 countries participating in Expo 2020 Dubai, which will take place from Oct 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022, under the theme of “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. Malaysia’s participation is led by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation while MGTC is the implementing agency.

Syed Ahmad said Malaysia Pavilion aims to open as many doors and business opportunities as possible for Malaysian companies, especially in light of the economic slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“MGTC remains steadfast and committed in our deliverables for the government by ensuring Malaysia’s active participation in Expo 2020 Dubai. We aim to deliver programmes that will benefit our national economy and industries,” he said.

Malaysian start-ups and small businesses can register their interest in the programme through  https://www.district2020.ae/scale2dubai or email enquiries to malaysiaexpo2020@greentechmalaysia.my.
