PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia is aiming big from the Expo 2020 in Dubai, setting a target of RM10bil in potential trade and investment value, says Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin.
She said yesterday the government was also expecting at least 1,000 business leads and 20 memoranda of understanding or partnership agreements to be signed.
To encourage local companies to participate at Malaysian pavilion, she said Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) was offering grants of up to RM200,000 to engage in international export promotional activities.
“We are targeting one million visitors at our Pavilion with at least 20 country delegations and over 5,000 participants attending our programmes. Ambitious? Yes. Possible? Definitely,” she said at the launch of Expo 2020 Dubai: My Butterfly Effect brand campaign.
Also present was Tunku Zain Al-’Abidin ibni Tuanku Muhriz, who is the campaign ambassador.
Yeo said aside from the grant from Matrade, the Finance Ministry had also approved tax incentive for cash contribution or sponsorship.
Individuals and companies would be eligible for 7% and 10% tax deduction respectively, she said.
The minister hopes that companies with innovation as well as green technologies will participate and showcase Malaysia’s efforts towards sustainability.
“The expo’s theme of Connecting Minds, Creating the Future aims to build partnerships and inspire ideas that will forge the world of tomorrow.
“With almost every nation on the planet participating, and with the most innovative companies showcasing their best solutions for the challenges that humanity faces, we can only imagine the business opportunities this event presents to all of us,” she said.
