INDICATOR INSTRUMENT FACTSHEET INDICATOR: WASTE SUB-INDICATOR: WASTEWATER 1. INDICATOR INFORMATION 1.1. GOALS AND TARGETS 1. Goal 1: 100% sludge to be recycled by 2030. 2. Goal 2: 33% of treated effluent to be recycled by 2030. The goal of this instrument is mapped to the following global goals and National targets: United Nations Sustainable Development Goals SDG 12 - Sustainable consumption and production. SDG Target 12.3: By 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including postharvest losses. RELATED SECTORS This indicator instrument applies to the following sectors: • Fisheries (Aquaculture) • Manufacturing • Livestock • Mining 2. DEFINITIONS AND CONCEPTS 2.1. DEFINITION Baseline year: A reference point in time against which a measure of consumption and/or production in the present and/or future are measured. Boundary: A defined border that accounts and limits the key business activities and processes which forms a basis of the study or analysis within the reporting period. Functional Unit: A specific/selected amount of feed or product or service defined as a basis of calculation, such as mass (weight), volume, and units. Reporting period: The time span for which the instrument assesses the organisation. Unless required otherwise time span should be one year. Wastewater: Effluent generated after the use of any water related resources in a variety of applications or processes. Sludge recovery: It is the process of extracting useful components from sludge.
