IGEM To Expand Beyond Business- centric Approach – Nik Nazmi

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 (Bernama) — The next edition of the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) event will be expanded beyond its current business-centric approach as Malaysia assumes chairmanship of ASEAN next year.

Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the next edition of IGEM will include a policy- centric and thought leadership event within the conference.

“Last year, we came up with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), we revised our National Climate Change Policy and we are in the final part of introducing the Climate Change Bill and Carbon Market Framework. This comes at a very strategic time.” he said after the official launch of IGEM 2024 today.

The IGEM 2024, officiated by Economic Minister Rafizi Ramli, reaffirms Malaysia’s commitment to a green economy as the country prepares for COP29, the ASEAN chairmanship in 2025, and Expo 2025.

According to Nik Nazmi, this year ‘ s IGEM edition introduces several new highlights that underscore its commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration.

He said it featured a dedicated industry zone for hydrogen and carbon technologies, the Central Energy Transition Asia (CETA), and a multi-venue exhibition showcasing the future of connected autonomous shared electric mobility, Mobility X.

Nik Nazmi emphasised that IGEM has been a pivotal platform for the past 15 years, and the 2024 edition aims to further solidify the region ‘ s leadership in addressing the urgent challenges posed by climate change.

This year’s IGEM is poised to expand its influence globally, with participation from 480 exhibitors and 48,000 visitors across 48 countries, reaching new markets in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.

Under the theme ‘Race Towards Net Zero: Regional Leadership for Climate Urgency, ’ the 2024 edition is organised around five key pillars: Empowering Cities, Electrifying Mobility, Decarbonising Energy, Accelerating Circularity, and Conserving Biodiversity.
