Solarvest Drives MGTC’s Transition to Malaysia’s Premier Net-Zero Energy Office

Solarvest Holdings Berhad, a prominent clean energy expert, is spearheading the installation of a cutting-edge 60kWp solar rooftop photovoltaic (PV) system for the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), an agency under Malaysia’s Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change (NRECC). Located at MGTC’s headquarters in Bangi, Selangor.

This initiative, carried out in collaboration with Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and LONGi Malaysia Sdn Bhd, is a significant corporate social responsibility (CSR) effort. Together, they are transforming MGTC’s existing Green Energy Office (GEO) into Malaysia’s pioneering Net-Zero Energy Office (ZEO) facility. This transformation will enable the office to generate as much energy as it consumes, establishing a self-sustaining energy system.

Group Chief Executive Officer of MGTC, Ts. Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor said, “As a government agency that aims to accelerate green growth, advance climate action and inculcate green lifestyle, we are committed to being an agent of change for sustainable development. The transformation of our existing office into Malaysia’s first ZEO building demonstrates our carbon-conscious initiative to operate in an environmentally responsible building. In light of this, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to corporations such as Solarvest, Huawei, and LONGi for their CSR initiatives promoting clean energy adoption.

“We’ve upgraded our solar panels to Longi Hi-MO X6, paired with Huawei 60 KTL smart string inverter to reduce our carbon footprint further and preserve the environment. This latest new generation technology has a higher efficiency rate, which provides an additional 25 % energy. This system would generate nearly 80,000 kWh annually, equivalent to almost 50 tonnes of CO2 release. That brings our Green Energy consumption to 60%,” he added.

Executive Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Solarvest, Mr. Davis Chong Chun Shiong (张俊雄) said, “As Malaysia advances toward its net-zero aspirations, we are encouraged by the increasing interest and awareness in clean energy adoption across the nation. The United Nations Environment Protection Agency highlights the significant carbon reduction opportunities within the construction industry, with a focus on cost-effective emission reductions. Solarvest is delighted to be a part of the creation of Malaysia’s first ZEO facility. Leveraging on our extensive expertise in clean energy, we are confident in our collaboration with Huawei and LONGi to seamlessly integrate renewable energy systems and energy-efficient designs, thus advancing MGTC’s sustainability initiatives.”

“ZEOs, characterised by their reliance on renewable energy sources and a focus on minimal energy consumption, hold the potential for increased savings and reduced environmental impact. Following our efforts in transforming MGTC’s office into a ZEO, we hope to witness a broader adoption of this eco-conscious model among businesses,” Mr. Davis added.
