BANGI: Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (MOSTI) is maintaining RM10 billion target in potential trade and investment at the Expo 2020 Dubai despite preparation for the event was disrupted due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Its deputy secretary-general Dr Mohd Nor Azman Hassan said about 22 ministries, 38 government agencies and five state governments will participate in the planned weekly business and trade programmes.
“The support and partnership given to us by our multi-stakeholders is truly encouraging. It gives us the added boost and spirit to achieve great outcomes for our country,” he said when met at Malaysia Expo 2020 Dubai event to celebrate the International Youth Day 2020 here yesterday.
Bureau International des Exposition which governs the world expo has decided to postpone the event to March 31, 2022 from Oct 1, 2021, but retained its Expo 2020 Dubai name.
Mohd Nor Azman, who is also Malaysia’s deputy commissioner for the expo said construction of the country’s pavilion in Dubai is progressing well, amid strict health and safety guidelines to protect staffs and workers.
Works on Malaysian pavilion is 40 per cent completed.
He expects issues pertaining to Covid-19 to dominate global discussion at Expo 2020 Dubai and the ministry will share Malaysia’s approaches, innovation and technologies in containing the pandemic.
Meanwhile, chief executive officer of Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre (MGTC) Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor has expressed confidence that more Malaysian companies and industries would join the country’s delegation to the expo to gain access to the global market.
MGTC as the implementing agency is tasked with charting a comprehensive programme for the expo.
Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry is the lead ministry.
Earlier, catering and meal boxes delivery service, PichaEats which won the Expo 2020 Dubai Live Innovation Grant recently, was honoured once again by the ministry.
PichaEats were founded by Lim Yuet Kim, Suzanne Ling and Lee Swee Lin.
The initiative which empowers refugee families to be self-sufficient has earned global recognition.
Also honoured at the event was Sean Lim, a producer and co-founder of Studio Birthplace which has bagged more than 50 international awards for films that advocate ecological and humanitarian causes.
His film will be among the contents featured at Malaysia Pavillion’s during the Expo. — Bernama
