MGTC-Green Touch Programme aims to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged and acknowledging frontliners contribution

RAWANG, 23 August 2020 – In solidarity with the Government’s effort to jointly combat the Covid-19 epidemic, MGTC as an agency under the purview of Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) and also as the implementing agency for Malaysia’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai joined-hand with its sponsors Julie’s Manufacturing and GISB Holdings to organised MGTC-Green Touch CSR Programme.

The main purpose of the MGTC-Green Touch CSR Program to support the marginalized and underprivileged and appreciate the important role of frontline personnel during the implementation of the Movement Control Order (PKP). The programme is also organised in tandem with the spirit of giving and the spirit of Awal Muharram.

The programme aims to provide the necessary support to the Ministry of Health (MOH) to support the marginalized and underprivileged as well as acknowledging fronliners vital roles during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period. The programme is also organised in tandem with the spirit of giving and the spirit of Awal Muharram.

The CSR programme held at Pusat Penjagaan Titian OKU Nur, Rawang, is homecare inhabited by 79 residents consisting of the elderly, the disabled and orphans. A sum of cash and in-kind donations raised from MGTC staff and families were presented by YB Senator Dato’ Dr Ahmad Masrizal Muhammad, Deputy Minister of Environment and Water (KASA) to Normah Adlan, Founder of Pusat Penjagaan Titian OKU Nur.

In acknowledging frontliners contribution in the Covid-19 pandemic and MCO period, representatives from Balai Polis Rawang, Klinik Kesihatan Rawang Healthcare Personnel and RELA were invited to participate and to receive goodie bags provided by Julie’s Manufacturing. A total of 150 Julie’s Gift of Love goodie bags were handed over to Pusat Penjagaan Titian OKU Nur and frontliners through a symbolic presentation ceremony.

Commenting on the significance of today’s programme, YB. Senator Dato’ Dr Ahmad Masrizal Muhammad, said, “This CSR program is a noble and sincere effort from MGTC that aims to convey to the underprivileged and as a sign of respect to the frontliners for the dedication and example they have shown”.

In his speech, Ts. Shamsul Bahar Mohd nor said the programme reflects MGTC’s care for the welfare of the needy as well as in recognising the contribution of the frontliners in safeguarding the people’s safety and health amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The cash and in- kind donations presented to Pusat Jagaan Titian OKU Nur were raised among staff and family. He also thanked Julie’s Manufacturing Sdn Bhd and GISB Holdings for coming together with MGTC for the CSR programme.

Julie’s Manufacturing Sdn Bhd and GISB Holdings are among two of the main sponsors for Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. The global event will be held from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022 and participated by 192 countries, including Malaysia. MGTC is the implementing agency for Malaysia’s participation at Expo 2020 Dubai which carries the main theme of “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”.

Formerly known as Pusat Tenaga Malaysia (PTM), Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (MGTC) was restructured in April 2010 and was under the purview of Ministry of Energy Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) till 2018. Assuming the role of the country’s lead agency, MGTC focused on catalysing green technology agenda in line with the aspirations of the National Green Technology Policy 2009. For the period of 2018 till early 2020, MGTC was under the purview of Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment & Climate Change (MESTECC). Now, MGTC is under the Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) and known as Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre. As the lead agency for KASA, MGTC develops and implements programmes on green growth, climate change mitigation and climate change adaptation.
